This week is Clerkenwell Design Week, which brings showcases of the best in new design, as well as celebrations and networking. We've picked out some highlights below, but the full experience is an exploratory one taken by foot. Also happening this week is the annual Chelsea Flower Show, and openings of exciting exhibitions. Catch Imagine Moscow and America After the Fall before they finish, and visit the Tate Modern for the monthly UNIQLO TATE LATES.

Clerkenwell Design Week | until 28 May

Clerkenwell Design Week returns for its annual festival celebrating makers and designers. Each year, the EC1 area is overrun with some of the best emerging designers and big brands alike showcasing their approach to the creative environment.  Innovative technology will sit beside stunning traditional hand crafts, with venues including a prison, a church, and London's most famous nightclub, Fabric, all transformed to exhibit considered and exemplar products.

Not to be missed are talks by designers (including one from Lipton Plant Architects), workshops throughout the week, and a panel talk on what makes great urban design.

Arper Bloggers Lounge | until 25 May

As part of Clerkenwell Design Week, Arper will be hosting a Bloggers Lounge in their showroom on Clerkenwell Road. Bloggers are invited to utilise the beautiful showroom as their temporary office to meet, work, share and connect during the festival. So if you need a break or have just discovered the latest design trend and need to share it immediately, make sure to stop by and take advantage of their stunning space in the perfect location.

California | Opening 24 May

The rise of design in California has grown from its pioneering mid-century liberalism to the silicon valley tech culture which has revolutionised the world. This exhibition explores not only the physical culture of California, but also what it is to be Californian, and whether we - across the pond - have taken on enough of these qualities to be considered as Californians. 

Autopia: Seeing Los Angeles in the 1970s | 27 May

Looking further at Los Angeles this talk which is part of the California exhibit (above) looks at LA being the 'prototype of post-modernity'. This talk from British architecture critic, Reyner Banham, will celebrate the more overlooked elements of the urban landscape, including the freeway, which is described by Banham as 'one of the greater works of man'.

Framing Serendipity: Studio Egret West exhibition | until 6 June

Celebrating the 12th year of practice, Studio Egret West is launching their first book, Framing Serendipity: An Approach to Evolving Places. The publication and the accompanying exhibition explores the belief within storytelling and 'growing a narrative from the histories and textures of a place'.

Zaha Hadid Architects: Unbuilt | until 18 August

Opening this week is an exhibition of the unbuilt ideas and projects of the late architect Zaha Hadid. Known for her impressive and innovative designs, this collection celebrates her immense talent and passion for experimentation.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show | until 27 May

Each year since 1913, The Chelsea Flower Show takes over the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, and opens its gates to over 150,000 people. This week long show is a huge celebration of British nurseries and landscape designers, and is a great exhibition of how we can design our outside spaces to better ourselves and our environment.
