Responding to Brexit, Eleanor Marshall considered five buildings designed by European architects working in the UK from 1973 until 2016; the lifespan of the UK’s membership of the European Union.
"If in the next few years major change hinders the eclecticism that the UK currently has we may be left with the tedious offspring of New London Vernacular and not much else."
Plus, Julia Ingalls looked at the example set by 7 famous architectural dropouts and autodidacts. Olaf Design Ninja_ quipped "pales in comparison to the Harvard drop-out list".

For those confused about the Guggenheim Helsinki discoverfinland clarified -
"The whole project has been rejected twice. Helsinki locals are vocally opposed to it, about 60/40, local govt is opposed to it, and now it has been completely ruled out at a national level. Unfortunately, some of those who are in favour are also journalists, which leads to the international community thinking this is an actual issue. It isn't. In 2017 the reserve that Guggenheim has on the site will lapse."
Donna Sink explained why the newly released REX renders, for the World Trade Center Performing Arts Center, are very beautiful "Translucent stone is humanistic and engaging...If they are really able to bookmatch it across the entire facade as shown in the renderings? good lord, it will be gorgeous..."
A few months after winning the honorable 2016 Venice Biennale Golden Lion, Pritzker laureate Paulo Mendes da Rocha was announced as the architecture recipient of the Japan Art Association's Praemium Imperiale International Arts Award for 2016.
Responding to some naysayers, commenting on the topping off of Brock Commons at the University of British Columbia (now the world’s tallest wood building), bowling_ball writes "The Canadian national code is changing to allow 6 storeys. This building is a test project that took years of convincing the authorities to allow. One of my concerns is how much differential shrinkage is going to happen once the wood loses some of its moisture. A 4-storey building can lose an inch. Crazy."
Orhan Ayyüce pointed out that MoMA is in process of making all its exhibition archives available online. This includes "Contextual shots of the installation, price and material lists, credits" and more!
Over at Yale Daily News, Joey Ye dug into why Architecture (is still) a difficult path for women. The reception was mixed. On one hand, some couldn’t help asking "How is it not appropriate for a design firm to strive to have conversations that are respectful of one another and focus on learning and common ground?"
Others offered "Let's find a middle ground... men, be less douchey and women, don't tweet every micro grievance and only 35% female panel"

Discussions/Threads
Inspired by his own, earlier, John Portman thread, David Cole questioned whether such atriums were even possible (anymore).
"Hypothetically, how would you propose a performance-based solution that meets the goals of IBC's prescriptive mandate, while still maintaining the design intent?".
mightyaa affirmed "It's been awhile since I've looked at this, but it is still possible...It is possible... just a code nightmare." jla-x added "think the Phoenix public library uses a smoke evac system to make their atrium compliant. Check it out".
lacalr also had a "code" question. "Does current ADA standards require a vertical grab bar in a shower compartment?". Everyday Intern was pleased when both Andrew.Circle and senjohnblutarsky referenced ANSI 117.1., in their answers. So to clarify "ADA is a federal law. It is not, technically, a building code. It may be adopted as an accessibility standard by a jurisdiction."
Finally, reacting to the contretemps a la Moby & Zaha Hadid, Orhan Ayyüce noted "A lot of people in architecture were eating from his feet and calling him an urbanist etc., when he wrote celebratory stuff about Los Angeles, mainly west side, with seemingly participating voice. Not too long ago. For a while, he was beyond criticism. I was yelled at (exaggerating here) for pointing out flaws." chigurh was more direct "he sucked at electronic music and now he sucks at architecture."
Additionally
You should check out what Forty-Five published regarding the work of Pierre Thibault; Specifically, how
"architecture and landscape provide a setting for each other in a synchronic conceptual and actual movement...The tireless questioning and exploring of the relations linking landscape and architecture in Pierre Thibault’s work consistently challenges the limits between the domains of architecture, landscape architecture, land art, performance art, and installation art."
