[King Carl XVI Gustav] said the sprawling brass-clad structure, designed by the British architect David Chipperfield to house the Nobel Foundation and host its prestigious annual prize ceremony, would dominate Stockholm’s celebrated 19th-century waterfront...
‘The size of the building is determined by what is necessary for a Nobel Centre. It’s not exploiting the value of the land or something – it’s not a developer building, an office building or a hotel...’ [Chipperfield said.]
— The Guardian
King Carl XVI Gustav isn't favorable toward Chipperfield's dominating design plan for the Nobel Center, which inevitably has sparked opposition. But, supporters of the project beg to differ.

Sweden still has a king? F*** the monarchy. Prince Charles called, he wants his inbred meaningless opinions back
The Monarch is more celebrity / figure head than in the old days. They still have them but its not all that different than Canada. Similar but a little different, too.
Thank god the US doesn't have to listen to some idiot Washington XVII. Then we'd never have built Vegas or Wendy's. Good that things are always dynamic.
Actually, they don't really have to listen to the King. There is things the King can say but that's it. It's like the President making noise about a building or if Trump was President making noise about a building being ugly as a fat pig. We and they can basically say "Go F--- yourself." Maybe in a more polite manner.
It´s the King it is the king who hands out the Nobel Prize ! But never mind the King. The National Heritage Board has appealed the decision to build the enormous box in this fragile historical part of the port of Stockholm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpigW2zkZKA
bolagerqvist,
I agree. The NHB can have substantively more influence and impact than the King with regards to this project and location of the building.
"Often, the opinion of the client must be disregarded, for his own good."
Amendment: It´s the National Property Board that has appealed the city's decision to authorize the construction of the Nobel Center. The National Heritage Board (among many other institutions) has also said no but has not appealed.
Thanks bolagerqvist. I suspect even they may have some agency weight. It will be interesting how this project unfolds.
