At the begining of Apri, Nicholas Korody published 'The internship test or: why even become an architect at all?' For Jeremy Miller the takeway was "am clearly paying my intern too much, that must be why I am not a successful famous Architect...But Seriously, I can sort of see an unpaid internship as a summer intern while still in school. But even then, I think they should make the minimum wage. However, Once you are out of school, a professional wage is appropriate." As he also noted "this is likely a large factor in why we have so little minority representation in Architecture". Midlander added "Can you think of any other profession where working for the most-admired offices pays no more and maybe less? You certainly don't hear of top-5 law grads doing unpaid internships to get into big law, or accountants under reporting hours so they can get that charmed consultancy job…"
Plus, Alexis Petrunia featured the "Double Stick" residence, by Studio Pali Fekete architects, which makes innovative use of 3M’s VHB architectural panel tape for it’s anodized aluminum façade. Olaf Design Ninja_ learned about the product last year while reviewing some metal workers shops, when a metal worker explained "it's his industry's version of duck tape After he explained it to me and I saw 3M made it, i was sold. Very cool to see an entire facade done this way. Wonder if they have any high wind testing data? (say Dade county approved.)".
Similarly, Thayer-D wondered "how it will hold up over time. These adhesives have a way of corroding when exposed to the extreme of weather."

Meanwhile in Los Angeles; Following major donations, Peter Zumthor's LACMA redesign moves forward. And the latest proposals from the Pershing Square Renew finalists were released.
Mr_Wiggin liked how the latest iteration of the LACMA redesign "has evolved over time, from something very amoebic, to a mass with definition. I'm still not sure how it'll work as a gallery, but that seems to be a secondary consideration in gallery design these days."
For his part, Marc Miller agreed with another commenter that "The Agence TER/Team proposal is the one project that does it's best not to clutter the site with fancy new shiny stuff and instead tries to make something that engages the context. The first rendering of the colonnade show a lot of restraint, even if the second image and the aerial clutter it the space."

Discussions/Threads
no_form started a thread to discuss to discuss the (potential) pending Doom. Specifically, was curious regarding "Any predictions about how many licensed architects will be left after another recession?". citizen chimed in "One possible interpretation is that, with fewer in supply, competition might raise fees. Of course, other variables are present." Peter Normand argued "The dip in numbers of people working in architecture due to the recession has reduced the number of people who are at the point most of us will finish that last exam and have all of the IDP done." legopiece took the opportunity to complain about a larger problem "Forget about a doom recession, no one is talking about the great architectural knowledge recession...Just take a look around your office, you have architecture offices being lead by people who are not architects."
Olaf Design Ninja_ wanted to talk about the Ecological impact of the Mexican Border and how "Animals are struggling to cope with the US-Mexico border wall." threadkilla acknowledges that "Trump is insane, but his Wall as a cornerstone of the election platform makes him architecturally compelling. Some 50 years ago the concept would have found siblings among the megastructure-minded architects." As Olaf put it later, "so legitimate border population? why cross the border, when you can live in it?"
Finally, ICYMI go do it started architecture gone wrong. The first example on offer is the former building of the Securitate - current home of the Union of Romanian Architects and McKinsey & Company. gruen was sort of impressed "That's kinda bangin . Gone so wrong it's right." For his part quondam hoped "the Union of Romanian Architects will continue to add to this building every 50/100 years or so. I like buildings that are also documents."
