Since I think there are a lot of folks out there who genuinely haven't made up their minds about the initiative, or aren’t familiar with it yet, I'd like to summarize some of the most important reasons to oppose it when it comes time to vote this November. - — Better Institutions
The looming battle for the future of development in Los Angeles is becoming more and more pronounced. One wonders if the public will ever grasp the relevance to their lives and vote with reliable information in coming November for this crucial issue?
In this age of rapid commodification of the cities, what is happening in L.A. can easily come to your city.If it didn't already that is.

WHO'S FOR AND WHO'S AGAINST DEVELOPMENT IN L.A.?
Hollywood Palladium Towers Approved in Face of Anti-Development Measure
There has to be some kind of balance that can be struck here, but there's not a chance in hell it will happen on its own. There doesn't seem to be enough economic incentive that would give developers a reason to plan more affordable housing. Affordable housing itself seems to be a misnomer in this case, as new developments not only in LA, but in many cities across the country/world, are priced more in line with high income/investor class types in mind. Not much room for the working stiff, including young architects, to find a place to call their own, and be able to feed their family.
Thanks for the useful links, Orhan.
Way off-topic, but I can't resist: the Palladium there in the foreground is where I passed my licensing exams. I can't drive by there without waxing nostalgic...
You are welcome.
Haha one of those exampalluzaas.. 5 whole days of testing and drafting with pencil and paper to become an architect! I failed those twice but remember what they were compared to today's luxury rides in front of a computer which I passed. I remember Palladium that way too.
Yes... bring your lunch, bring your dinner, bring your drafting gear, and settle in for 12 hours to design building alongside a hundred others doing the same. No pressure, though!
