An 80-storey ‘Dynamic Tower’ will be standing in Dubai by 2020 is everything goes to plan, architectural firm Dynamic Group has told us. When built it will be the world’s first skyscraper consisting of separate rotating floors attached to a central column, and inside there will be luxury apartments (natch).
If you’re wondering what a rotating skyscraper actually is, it’s very much as the name suggests. [...] control the rotation speed and direction of their apartment through voice activation.

"Proposed back in 2008 by architect David Fisher, the tower aims to be 420m tall, which would make it the second tallest building in Dubai, as well as the second tallest residential tower in the world behind New York’s 432 Park Avenue (which stands at 425.5m)."

Terrible.
stupid idea, very stupid.....
This is a good sign the Dubai recession is coming again. Brace yourselves!
oh dear, do they also think their oil is renewable!!
^ they might as well be.
Is this not the tower where each wanker can "park" their car on the floor of their unit via a massive freight elevator in the core?
That must take an enormous amount of energy...the polar bears on floating on chunks of ice but at least rich people get a 360 degree view of the beach
I say wind that thing up to a few hundred rpm like a giant blender and then pour the contents out for use as fertilizer.
Then rinse it out, fill it up and run it again.
I guess they don't have homeowner's associations in Dubai. Can you imagine the rules on applying for permission to rotate if this was in NY or Chicago?
A perfect metaphor for our current geez-wiz state of architecture. Patrik Schumacher would be proud.
LOL Miles. Reminds me of this sketch

LOL
I remember looking into this at the time. The guy proposing it wasn't an Architect, had never built anything... it was a total load of crap.
I don't really think the guy proposing this needs to be an architect or should have built something to guarantee a lack of crap. There's so much crap proposed by official architects with tons of built projects under their belts that I don't think it's a requirement. If anything, fresh ideas or innovation can also come from people who are not burdened with too much practical hands-on experience but are still in touch with their imagination.
