Massimals are 1:1 design objects that serve as prototypes to examine how physical form can engage the public realm, designed by Design Office Takebayashi Scroggin (D.O.T.S.). These constructs are mass abstractions of animal forms fabricated in systematic fashion from one material. The suggestive forms and their specific arrangement imply docile behavior similar to animals in a petting zoo augmenting the way visitors approach and engage built form.
For the installation in the 2011 Beaux Arts Ball, this Massimal blends in with the lively atmosphere of the party by creating a spectacle in the form of a glowing volume comprised of over 20,000 zip ties.

Cool, Jason!
Beautiful, but a complete theft from an old teacher:

Doesn't look like a theft at all, just a different application of similar media and technique.
Really lovely.
Awesome! It's good to see UK doing something fun and intersting.
@Fred, Oh yes, a theft. This material system is not similar, it is an exact replica of a technique that was used in another piece. One could say that material is only material, not idea, but it's hard to imagine the strange luminosity of the piece without this particular material construction. So too is the cleverness of the looping system of zipties, which is daunting in its re-invention of such a base, off-the-shelf component. It is, however, unfortunately, the enormous imagination of someone else, and anyone who is a designer should be offended by taking something this original without credit or acknowledgement. Most unfortunate is that these designers are clearly gifted and should be better than this on their own.
