Would be cooler if they used those sub-pods for break stations IE; coffee shops, music platforms and vino / sandwich joints. The tent cover's I've seen In Rome as a temporary masks to the facades of building that were cleaned do to timeless grit build up. It think they are on to a couple of good Ideas but not finished
for me the design works against the melancholy of the scape. balloon lady knows what i am talking about.;.)
Very much worth it to click through to the whole slideshow of all of the entries, some fantastic imagery all around.
The imagery in pretty great, and balloon Lady is chilling or waiting for her ride
Studio bam!, the winners of the first prize, have just shared with us more images of their entry. Head over to Bustler to see balloon lady in detail.
should we say, mmmm.. sexy balloon lady waiting for gondola not Godot...?
wow, what a beautifully composited image... and if you've ever seen traffic on the grand canal, what an worthless idea.
Not at all worthless, peace77. Ideas don't have to be realistic to have worth, that's why we call them "ideas".
Uh. No, Fred. Sorry. If that is a great idea, then show it to me somewhere in the world where it would be great, not in a place where it would be entirely dysfunctional. Maybe an untrafficed corner of a lakeside edge in Chicago? I dont know where it would be great exactly. The point is, this is the last thing that would work on the grand canal.
Dramatic yes. Functional? Not at all. Problem is, the jury only sees dramatic. Then they give first prize and reward a bad idea.
Got to disagree, the point of many of these kinds of competitions is to find the abstract, moody, and even provocatively impractical. No one's standing by with a construction crew and budget, it's about the production of culture as much as it is about built space.
This changes the way you see the canal, right? If it's powerful enough, it might make you want to argue in favor of creating the conditions that would make this possible, even if it includes limiting vaporetto traffic.
