called Palais Lumière, [it] will be a glittering menagerie of private apartments, hotels, commercial spaces and even a fashion university, and it would transform a dilapidated industrial area bordering the Venetian lagoon. Mr. Cardin has described the Palais, actually three structures linked by six flat discs, as a “habitable sculpture” and said it was his dream. — NYT

Holy Ugly Batman!
It's not about "CONSERVATIONISM", it's about have a brain and use it. Maybe it fits better in Dubai.
I totally agree with the last comment about Dubai...where's the surrounding context of Venice anyway? I see no correlation whatsoever. Are we sure that this particular rendering (which, incidentally, is nicely done) wasn't meant to be accompanied by different article?
Actually the site project is not in Venice, but along Mestre's waterfront, which is the small town facing Venice on the mainland. It's incredible how much inacurate is the article written by New York Times.
Either way, still looks like a side table I saw at target last week. Who is getting paid for this stuff?
Wow, you guys stateside are a little slow sometimes. This project was the talk of the town during the biennale, which I think I noted, but somehow didn't crack the american press at the time.
Yo!
