"Thomas Heatherwick: Making" compiles over 20 years' worth of work by the acclaimed British designer and his London practice into one hefty yet sleek 640-page book. Co-authored by Thomas Heatherwick himself, the revised and expanded version of the 2012 monograph delves into the details behind 140 projects.
Heatherwick explains the fundamental design question each project is based on, followed by the creative and practical processes used to address the question. The book contains hundreds of images of works like the recently completed Learning Hub at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, the sea urchin-like UK Pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, the 2012 Olympics London Bus, the hotly debatable Garden Bridge, and of course, the Spun Chair.

"[Thomas Heatherwick: Making] provides an inside look at the creation and development of his projects, answering the questions constantly asked of him: How did he do that? How did he allow every country in the Olympics to take part in lighting the Olympic cauldron? Transform a historic grain silo in Cape Town into a home for a collection of contemporary African art? Create a public park in the middle of the Abu Dhabi desert? Design a new version of the beloved London bus that remains an icon while using less fuel?
Established in 1994, Heatherwick Studio is recognized for its inventive approach to design, often combining novel engineering with new materials and cutting-edge technology to create unusual, and always entirely original, building forms."
