That unattractive strip mall on the corner of Sunset and Crescent Heights boulevards ... will be razed in favor of a Frank Gehry-designed mixed-use development [...]
The state last year deemed the project to be L.A. County's first California Environmental Leadership Development Project.
To qualify developments must see at least $100 million in investment, achieve LEED Silver certification or better, and emit zero net greenhouse gases.

Frank Gehry’s deep understanding of the property, its history and the context will elevate the project to the iconic and timeless status that it deserves.
LOL LA, starstruck.
Since when is Gehry a leader in sustainability?
Well, okay, but it really doesn't solve anything, just another Gehry mega project.... these sustainability guys get me.....if it's new it's not "sustainable"; what's "sustainable" is saving everything that's there and making that work.... think the word "Hollywood" in the story gives away what's really going on there.
This site formerly held the Garden of Allah, an amazing resort compound that housed Hollywood's brightest and sleaziest. (Also the site of a certain 2nd year studio project in 1980, for which I proposed a stunning glass box. I've grown since then.)
I'm really looking forward to seeing how Gehry's "deep understanding of the property, its history and context" will influence his design.
I'm surprised that FG's fan club hasn't screamed abuse here. I mean he is the worlds most accomplished living architect, isn't he?
