That is part of Sachs' whole get-up, using the shittiest materials to create a shuttle to mars. Building architectural models out of foam core and hot glue with more rigor than most architects.
I found it interesting to have recently learned that Tom Sachs used to work for Frank Gehry in the wood shop helping develop the Cross Check, Hat Check, and other chairs in that series.

Tom Sachs Studio has a special little bell they ring when the daily Grainger delivery arrives. I love everything about his work.
mc busier!!!
That was delightful. And of course it brings to mind my favorite piece of writing ever, by Peter Schjeldahl, about concrete.
That was hilarious. Only a tribute to OSB could be even more amusing.
Oh, and plywood sucks. It has its uses but most is made in China of garbage wood and paper. Interior plywood is also toxic (urea formaldehyde glue).
I love the way the table saw blade is cranked way up high to cut 3/4" material.
