“Anyone who has been going to Burning Man for the last five years is now seeing things on a level of expense or flash that didn't exist before,” said Brian Doherty, author of the book “This Is Burning Man.” “It does have this feeling that, ‘Oh, look, the rich people have moved into my neighborhood.’ It’s gentrifying.” — NYT
"By the way, there are over 62 million Burning Man results in the Google search but who can guarantee they all originate from Nevada desert? After all, men and women burn daily all over the world. Right?" - from Burning Man, a new religion?

Everyone I knew who went to burning man in the 90s and 00s were people from wealthy/comfortable backgrounds (and in computer science). I guess it's gone to a whole other level...
Sounds like Rome at the time of Nero, no?
And by that I mean, fiddling at the orgy while the rest of Rome burns. It's only a matter of time before the masses become tired of bread and circuses, ESPN and Lebron James and start beheading Tech and Wall Street moguls.
Why so dark, Darkman. Can't rich people just be self-involved douches without it being the end of civilization?
and we have a winner!
the gleam on your teeth, Mr Liebchen, gives me shivers.
One of the better Horror films The Wicker Man from 1973, ends with the burning a giant wicker man, 10-12 years before the burning man festival. Does anyone else see that connection?
Perhaps that's because there is no essentialist contradiction between the self indulgence of the airy fairy poor(er at least) and the self indulgence of the airy fairy rich but merely materialist. Perhaps, in its core, such an event has this seed of egoistic titillation within it...and it took the rich vs poor(er) contrast to make it self evident to those who are cannot perceive that the event has that core concurrent with a poor(er) audience.
Heavy Rain Cancels Burning Man's Opening Day
Rain man wins over burning man. What a horrible name....burning man
