I remember a knife fight I saw in good ol bed-stuy once, in an alley across from the plexi'd liquor store, where the train tracks come up from underground. One guy drew a knife, the other guy reached into his pocket and drew a flare, sparked it and thought he had that shit all wrapped up. He waved it around for show but hauled tail when everyone started laughing at him. Memories . . . .
@boy in a well, when was that? Death Wish era NYC?
shit, dunno... 2007 maybe? the smell of gentrification was overpowered by the smell of cheap fried fast food. fairly depressing place... but that fight always brings a smile to my face and tears to my eyes . . .
It's not surprising really, when you walk around places like Bed Stuy and Crown Heights, the amount of beautiful buildings that are decaying and just begging to be fixed up is staggering. I worked on a building in Crown Heights, in an area that I wouldn't really want to wander into at night, and once you peeled back the paint and sheetrock, underneath you could see raised oak wood paneling, stained glass windows, decorative stone and brickwork, places where gas lines were converted into electric lines, parkay floors and boxes left in ceilings where chandeliers used to hang. These neighborhoods used to be great before they became just another 'hood. So it's no surprise people are moving in to restore them back to their glory, especially when in Manhattan, all you see are glass boxes and reminders of what used to be.
