Since the competition's inception, university teams have been lucky to enjoy the attention of visitors worldwide, who come to our National Mall in Washington D.C. to view the 20 solar powered single family homes. With the Monument as our backdrop, this site is emblematic to the initiative of this competition: sustainability and affordability.
We have been recently informed by the DOE that this year the Parks Department will not allow our competition to take place on the National Mall and will need to seek an alternative site. This is devastating news for a number of reasons further specified in the petition letter we have drafted to our congressmen and President.
Please click this link, it will take you to a website where our letter addressed to the President is already loaded, Type in the Necessary information and send it directly to the president/congressman/and house of reps. This is a letter from a Student involved in the Solar Decathlon to an official. Therefore, there is no reason to go to public affairs, college presidents, or anybody. It is a personal statement.

Please help keep the competition on the National Mall!
Emails sent. Please kick in, everyone - it's quite easy to do!
Why is the Parks Department denying access this year? I thought minimal impact to the Mall was one of the competition requirements.
Is this a political ploy to cut federal spending?
there is an ongoing debate around DC and the parks dept about using the mall for any festival that isn't just a one day affair. plus there may be a renovation in the planning stages that will be underway when the decathlon is scheduled to take place. So, I got a hunch that the SD isn't the only event that's being told to find other digs...
