Guests at the party, included a who's who of Indian glitterati, and at least one remarked that the building was the "Taj Mahal of the 21st Century". BBC News

yes, when 21st century folks flock to see a stunning building, a tribute of a man's love for his wife, this is where they'll want to go.
fucking idiots.
spot on.
that building is absolutely horrid.
in terms of its historical context (not "form" or "program") this building is perhaps even more inspiring than the taj mahal.
it may not be a symbol of love but it sure as hell is a symbol of hope, success and redemption to the millions of poor but hardworking indians living in mumbai city.
how is this a symbol of hope?!? that is some good sarcasm!
the millions of poor folks don't look at this as a symbol of hope. they're wondering where there next meal is coming from, not how they can accumulate billions and erect hideous abortions to vanity, ego.
Its a symbol of ass, not that of hope.
This guy didn't know where his next meal would come from when he was a kid. His family lived in a "chawl" when they came to Bombay with $200 in their pocket. Their lives were no cake walk. U think this is about Ego? F*ck yeah.
Btw, no one here today is worried about their "next meal". Wake up jacka*s and read the Economist this city is no longer as "third worldish" as you would want to believe. People here - rich and poor - care about two words: upward mobility. And this guy epitomizes that.
holz.box - well said mate.
allSTAR,
there is a huge chasm between caring about upward mobility, and achieving it. almost half the city lives in slums. i'm not saying that mumbai isn't a city of paradoxical juxtapositions (extreme wealth, extreme poverty) but to claim this hideous abortion is a symbol of hope seems absurd.
also, several websites describe ambani's father's chawl as one of the better ones in mumbai in the 60s, filled with business people and traders. maybe no one you know isn't worried about their next meal, but with almost 60,000 children forced into prostitution in mumbai, there most definitely is a large population worried about exactly that.
Symbol of capitalism.
