DuPont™ Corian® - Raising the Bar in Infection Control at ER One
The DuPont™ Corian® Design Studio in New York City, as we previously introduced you to, provides an invaluable resource for architects and designers to learn more about innovative applications of the versatile Corian material. One common application is in the Health Care industry. Today we're sharing an emergency room hospital project designed by Barbara Huelet in Washington, DC, incorporating extensive use of DuPont™ Corian® to maintain a safe, clean environment without sacrificing design.

The benefits of DuPont™ Corian® as the ideal surfacing material for healthcare fully come into play in the Washington Hospital Center in D.C., where surfacing solutions provider Evans & Paul, a partner of the NYC Corian® Design Studio, have modeled an emergency facility called ER One. Corian® was selected as the surfacing material of choice because of its ease of cleaning and proven infection control in healthcare environments.
The Barbara Huelet-designed 2010 ER One Waiting Room includes the DuPont™ Corian®
Illuminations Series
for décor on the unique feature wall and a color from the
Healing Colors Collection
for the receptionist’s desk, chair rails and security desk - all part of the latest innovations in DuPont™ Corian® surfacing materials. The use of DuPont™ Corian® in ER One helped eliminate grout lines and crevices, thus eliminating a potential source of microbial contamination from the patient care unit.
According to a recent study of healthcare facilities, 76% of various sites tested had unacceptably high bacteria levels, but only 18% looked dirty1.
