Foster + Partners just unveiled a stunning world-class soccer stadium for Qatar's bid to host the World Cup in 2022. The Lusail Iconic Stadium was revealed today at the Leaders in Football conference in London, and it will be large enough to seat over 86,000 spectators. Built specifically for the extreme summer conditions of the capital city Doha, the stadium will be stay cool in the hot, hot heat and also generate solar power from the parking lot canopies surrounding the stadium. It's interesting that they hope to generate enough power to be able to send power to the surrounding community. thus making the asphalt oceans usually surrounding a stadium a net positive. I also wonder if the shading/solar structures will by shading the parking lot surface decrease in any way the heat island effect to further help keep the stadium cool...
