The GE Global Research Center in Oklahoma City is a contemporary expression of the groundbreaking discoveries taking place inside. From the selection of the 7.5-acre site, to the character of textures and materials, to the stunning views from any angle, the facility was designed to tell the story of GE Global Research in Oklahoma.
The GE Global Research Center’s design encompasses three main components: innovation, research and solutions. Each component within the 120,000 square foot facility is easily identifiable from the exterior – expressing its purpose to its surroundings. The materials selected are a combination of natural and distinctly Oklahoman, sleek and modern reflections of technology and innovation. The horizontal emphasis – consistent throughout the buildings proportions, textures and details – mirrors the layers of earth that will yield new discoveries and energy solutions.
INNOVATION: The researchers and staff have open and flexible work spaces, allowing for interaction and collaboration while overlooking the portal providing an awareness and connection to other spaces throughout the building, like the high bay lab.
RESEARCH: The 10,000 square foot research space features an 80-foot-tall high bay lab built around two test wells with two 30-ton bridge cranes. The research space includes an open floor plan and continuous utility runways to provide flexibility in supporting new research experiments.
SOLUTION: The 8,000 square foot glass showroom deliberately breaks away from the orthogonal grid of the rest of the building as a nod to GE’s customer base and to create a stunning visual backdrop of downtown Oklahoma City.
The GE Global Research Center is a connection to and an extension of the Oklahoma City Community. The building makes a sophisticated visual statement and offers a distinct experience for customers, clients, and collaborators from around the world. It is a highly-technical laboratory housed within signature architecture that supports GE’s global mission to drive technology breakthroughs and bring them to market
