Salon Today's 2019 'Salon of the Year' Grand Prize Winner

Challenged to develop a new brand identity and flagship location for an established company, the new generation PENZONE Salon + Spa pinpoints a new focused direction on health, wellness and sustainability.

Located in Columbus, Ohio for more than 50 years, The Charles Penzone Salons have been pioneering the beauty industry and are routinely recognized for excellence within the health and beauty industry, This project was most recently recognized by being awarded Salon of the Year at The Northern American Hairstyling Awards and Salon of the Year from Salon Today magazine. 

The newest Penzone Salon + Spa, located in Dublin, Ohio offers more than 12,000 square feet of hair styling, health focused wellness and spa services. Along with these traditional spa services, the salon offers a social room including a full bar for private parties and events, yoga and community focused classes and social outreach services.

The salon embodies a new brand mantra, “Beauty from the outside in.” This concept directly correlates with atmosphere of the building. The exterior façade has a natural materiality and authentic impression, which transitions seamlessly inside the building. Blending natural vegetation, aroma-therapeutic and visual engagement captures the guest senses and overall wellness experience

Two large live green walls grow within the social room, at the heart of the building, which creates a calming energy that moves through the building, the chosen artwork strives for inclusion and diversity through the unique variation of mediums such as photography, sculpture, and paintings from various local artists. 

The new brand identity solutions yield a sustainable design that supports guest experience and comfort, this effort has also enhanced the experience of all staff and professionals. This focused effort on health and wellness is optimized through natural light planning, indoor air quality with enhanced mechanical systems, natural ventilation and vegetation. With strong connections between interior and exterior activity, the building design impacts the user through sensory experiences with scent, acoustics, temperature and visual engagement.
