Abercrombie & Fitch’s "Building U" houses various office functions including a data center and recording studio. The second floor main entry, which is located in the prominent south facade, is signaled by a dynamic exterior stair that leads to the reception area and conference room. Voids and solids express the entry and conference room destinations which cantilever from the facade and overlook the pastoral fields and a pond from the treetops. The exterior stair ducks in and out of the building envelope, enhancing ones arrival. The experience is echoed inside with an airy interior, communicating stair punctuated by overlapping platform landings. The open studio plan encourages communication and collaboration while affording generous natural lighting and views to the landscape. The mailroom/shipping and receiving areas are adjacent to the exterior equipment which was tucked from view. Corrugated steel and cedar siding mitigated the scale of the 140,000 square foot building to a human scale while knitting the building into the fabric of the campus.
