Located in the Santa Monica Mountains, the 3,800 square foot conference center is part of the TreePeople Center for Community Forestry. Designed to support the non-profit’s environmental mission, the center received LEED Platinum certification in 2008.
Inspired by the surrounding landscape, the architecture blurs the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. The building is oriented to make the best use of the sun and winds. Concrete walls act as structure and absorb the day’s heat from the sun and release it at night. Additional sustainable strategies include utilizing reclaimed materials from existing on-site structures in the new building.
