Giardini Boutique Hotel & Residences is the first and only ecological building in Guayaquil, Ecuador’s largest and most populous city. 

This vertical garden is located in the city’s main street, overlooking the country’s national river. This eco-friendly design is the first in Ecuador to have qualified for Design Hotels™ ’s selective collection of luxurious hotels worldwide.

The main concept was to create a modern building, and at the same time maintain it integrated with the city’s essence. As it was the first building to be constructed in the historic downtown riverfront street in over twenty years, it was important to create an iconic representation of Guayaquil. 

The idea was to expand the pier’s gardens and the river flow onto the building itself. The gardens are implemented on first 6 floors and are used for parking, where vegetation is applied to reduce the impact of gas emanations. 
The river is represented in the top part of the building, through the geometric trims that “cut” a cube figure made of concrete and glass. These shapes resemble the waves formed at the river, using white and green elements to imitate the river’s colors and reflection. Currently under construction.
