Piedmont Triad International Terminal Modernization

Lindsey Architecture was commissioned by the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority in 2015 to transform a late 1970s-era terminal building into a  contemporary design reflective of the community it represents. This was achieved by removing the low ceilings and exposing 18’ deep x 150’ long trusses that span the width of the terminal building and cantilever out 25’ on each side. The first part of this project was the creation of a conceptual model of the existing terminal building using SketchUp. This model allowed us to show the client possible design solutions for future needs within the existing building framework in real time.

This is the latest project of a five year, $10 million terminal masterplan that Lindsey Architecture completed in 2011 titled “Refresh, Renew, & Reconnect”. The previous components that have been completed are: New Signage & Way Finding throughout, new Flight Information Display Systems, new seating through the terminal and holdrooms that included charging stations, along with new arched ceilings over the ticket counters.  Future phases include upgrading each concourse, restrooms, vestibules, and the baggage claim level.
