Greensboro Science Center Zoo Expansion (in progress)

Lindsey Architecture, along with out-of-state consultants C7A and EDSA, collaborated with the Greensboro Science Center on a design to help expand its zoo by 11 acres, adding several new exhibits and species. Lindsey Architecture is implementing this new concept, the “un-zoo” called Revolution Ridge, where nearly-endangered animal species will receive a safe home and extraordinary care. The natural contours of the adjacent acreage - slopes and a wooded ravine - have become assets in the design of homes for the new residents at the Science Center. These features complement each animal’s habitat found in the wild, whether it be in shade, sun, or rugged terrain. The defined areas of the landscape will house cassowaries, okapis, pygmy hippoes, Chilean flamingoes, endangered cats, and red pandas. A new animal health center, water garden with hydropods, nature play houses, and endangered cat complex will be included within the addition. Educational technology and the Greensboro Science Center’s dedication to species preservation will also be ubiquitous features of Revolution Ridge.
