The IIT Pritzker Science Center that houses the College of Science and Letters is undergoing renovation. The phased project provides the technology and spaces for forward thinking learning within the modern architectural vocabulary of a 1966, Miesian-style existing building.
Following a feasibility study to determine the future of the facility as a teaching and research hub on campus, LCM developed a master plan envisioning classrooms, teaching/research labs, offices, student lounges, and collaborative spaces to complete a comprehensive revitalization. The design intent is to create a visually appealing, energizing environment that supports IIT’s reputation for innovation and creative science.
Initial phases developed an interior, light-infused lobby and an exterior plaza, refreshing the school’s image and reestablishing its connection to the main campus thoroughfare. A third phase renovates major interior spaces, modernizing a large lecture hall and creating flexible peer-to-peer learning classrooms. Renovation of the Dean’s suite with offices, a kitchenette, reception, and teaming areas, was the latest phase of development.
