The redesign of downtown Punta Gorda gives it a clear central area while maintaining its
small town feel. There is a gentle transition from the dense central part to the less dense
outer zones. The master plan adds a bit of flourish with a grand central axis extending from
the shore of Charlotte Harbor, through a large park flanked by retail/residential buildings,
through the bridge of the courthouse, and ending on historic main street.
