The Soledad project was a six week investigation into the challenges of redesigning a culturally significant, yet ultimately defunct public space. The space is currently an incoherent conglameration of programs acting as mere appendages to their adjacent buildings. The baroque Basilica de la Soledad, Oaxaca's City Hall, the ex-convent of San José, and the Oaxaca's School of Music and Art, are all high profile buildings with no coherent rythm to their public realm. Further, the Jardin de Socrates resides in between these parcles and provides the only sanctuary of shade for the public. In this partner project we looked to reconcile the demands of each building's program while creating a unified public space. Multiple realms of experience were thus generated to address each institution's inherent space requirements.
