The addition of a new Entry Hall and Commons provides the Aldercrest Elementary school with a gathering space that connects the existing classroom and gym buildings. The modernization includes new exterior cladding and insulation, new interior finishes, and a new attic space to house the DOAS mechanical equipment.
The large roof form encloses the new mechanical equipment and wraps around the building floor plan to create a unifying shape. The monolithic form is enhanced by the new slat cladding that wraps the building and is only broken by the rhythm of the existing windows. The roof form provides the addition with a double height space that captures daylight by a large clerestory.
