MADE is a design/build company specializing in custom architectural design, construction management, and specialty fabrication. Founded in 2002, MADE believes in integrating the architect and the builder at every stage of the creative process. We focus primarily on private residential homes and custom commercial projects within New York City and the surrounding area. Located in a Civil War-era warehouse on the historic piers of Red Hook, Brooklyn, MADE’s workshop includes a vibrant design studio attached to a 7,500 sq ft shop.

We are looking for a thoughtful and self-motivated Designer to join our Interiors team. 

The Designer’s role is to support the project team by executing the project goals and objectives established by the Director of Interiors and Client and seeing them through to completion.  Other main responsibilities include project financial administration and the development of MADE’s project resources. 

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Interior Design or related field with 1 to 5 years of professional experience

  • Detail oriented 

  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to collaborate with the work of others

  • Fluency in drafting with AutoCAD, hand-sketching, 3D rendering and physical model-making 

  • Long term interest in Design/Build and MADE

  • A valid New York State Drivers License

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Develop,  maintain and update MADE resources including the Interiors Materials Library, Interiors Samples Archive, and MADE Specifications resource

  • Attend design events and trade shows 

  • Maintain vendor relationships

  • Assist the project team on as-needed basis to help in the installation of previously specified items, as well as provide solutions for unanticipated changes.

  • Research new products and materials for inclusion in future projects and compile the successes/failures of specified products for use again on projects.  

Project Responsibilities:

  • Apply the resources of the materials library during design development and procure samples from vendors as needed

  • Produce specification binder 

  • Draft furniture plans and furnishings 

  • Develop collages and design presentations for Owner

  • Acquire samples from vendors 

  • Coordinate pricing and availability with suppliers, assemble pricing and produce Purchase Approvals

  • Purchase furnishings,  and arrange storage and installation of furnishings

  • Assist in installation of final project 

  • Enter monthly costs to produce invoice and track budget 

  • Participate in internal design reviews during design development and in client meetings as appropriate

  • Make samples for clients where appropriate

  • Produce close-out and maintenance binder 

The ideal candidate must have good communication skills, be hands-on and open-minded, and have a desire to work in teams with multiple designers and builders. 

This is a full-time, salaried position with full benefits including Health Insurance, 401(k), and PTO. 

Salary Range: $62,500 - $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
