MADE is a design/build company specializing in custom architectural design, construction management, and specialty fabrication. Founded in 2002, MADE believes in integrating the architect and the builder at every stage of the creative process. We focus primarily on private residential homes and custom commercial projects within New York City and the surrounding area. Located in a Civil War-era warehouse on the historic piers of Red Hook, Brooklyn, MADE’s workshop includes a vibrant design studio attached to a 7,500 sq ft shop.
We are looking for a thoughtful and self-motivated Project Architect to join our team. The Project Architect is responsible for leading the day-to-day management of 2-3 architectural projects and oversees the successful development and complement of design work from schematic design to Owner occupation and project closeout. The Project Architect works in coordination with the Principal to establish the project's conceptual design goals and under the supervision of the Director of Architecture for successful completion of project objectives. Primary responsibilities will include managing the drawing and documentation of the project during design as well as management of the scope, schedule and budget during construction; this will include serving as the primary point of contact for Owners as well as subcontractors and fabricators. Responsibilities also include overseeing the work of other Design staff assigned to the project.
Qualifications:
Licensed Architect with 5-8 years of professional experience, preferably in NYC residential architecture.
4+ years of construction administration experience managing similarly-sized construction projects in an urban context
Experience working on and leading 2-3 projects at once through SD > DD > CD > BN > CA > move-in > post project communication with clients
Long term interest in Design/Build and MADE
Clear verbal and written communication skills. Experience and skills in managing and leading the work of others
Fluency in drafting with AutoCAD, hand-sketching, 3D rendering
Detail oriented and ability to document technical construction processes
Experience with NYC DOB Code Requirements including application approvals, inspections and sign-off
Experience in Public review process (including Landmarks Preservation Commission review), and other regulatory agency reviews
Experience in Engineering Consultant Coordination and review of technical documentation (MEP, Structural, Geotechnical, Civil)
Passive House experience is a plus
Administrative Responsibilities:
Provide all project administrative reports, including work plans and invoicing, to the Director of Architecture for weekly team progress check-in meetings
Manage the duties of 2-3 Designers in the execution of all aspects of project work
Project Responsibilities:
At project start-up, synthesize initial project information from the Project Owner, Design and Build teams to establish project scope, schedule and budget objectives and to document clear work plans for each project team member
Complete required deliverables according to the schedule of completion for each project phase. Lead the Architecture project team towards project objectives, including coordination with Interiors and Build staff,
Coordinate design development and documentation, including specifications selections, and the development of furnishings in tandem with the MADE Interiors department
Issue all drawing sets issued for Permitting, Pricing, and Construction during the CD phase and shop drawing submittals during the CA phase
Complete project administrative duties including design fee invoicing
Serve as the primary point of contact for the Project, including Owner, Consultant and MADE Build
The ideal candidate must have good communication skills, be hands-on and open-minded, and have a desire to work in teams with multiple designers and builders.
This is a full-time, salaried position with full benefits including Health Insurance, 401(k), and PTO.
Salary Range: $85,000 - $110,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
