Award-winning, Hamptons architecture firm seeks an experienced architect to lead our Brooklyn satellite office of six to eight architects as its Head of Studio. This role requires a licensed architect with a minimum of 10 years of experience in all aspects of custom residential design, a collaborative design process, a gift for leadership, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

A Head of Studio must embody the three essentials of leadership: Creative, Managerial, and Operational.

Creative: A team player who is willing to break artistic conventions, who are passionate about design, and who is also able to inspire and lead a group of talented architects/designers.

• Managerial: Has strong leadership and mentoring skills to oversee a group of individuals through all design and documentation phases. Will work with project managers to establish methodological standards, and make sure it is shared, understood, and used throughout the team.

• Operational: Ability to see the Big Picture and optimize the design organization’s effectiveness. Ability to collaborate with firm leadership principals in the development of firm planning and strategy to direct the growth and development of the firm.

• Collaborative individual who acts as the extension of JMA’s core design values and vision for the Brooklyn team.

• Able to lead the process of creating and developing the fundamental design principles to guide a project from the earliest stages of its conception and continue to assist in its development and refinement through subsequent design and document phases

• 10+ years of experience in a range of architectural practices including but not limited to – construction documentation, construction phase services, and project management.

• Successful execution and completion of high-end custom residential projects with construction budgets of $10 million and above

• Genuine interest in expanding a satellite practice, including the development of office standards and practices in collaboration with firm leadership principals

• Articulate, capable of clearly communicating design intent to clients, consultants, and staff

• Must be mobile. The position will require scheduled visits to the Hamptons for site visits, client meetings, and in-person meetings with the firm’s principals in the Sag Harbor office.
