FXCollaborative is an established architectural, interior design, planning, and urban design firm based in New York City.  Noted for its commitment to sustainable design the firm has been recognized through local, national, and international design excellence awards and feature articles in the most prestigious design publications. The practice encompasses corporate, civic, cultural, educational, transportation, residential, hospitality, office, retail, and mixed-use projects on a variety of scales, from single story to high-rise. 

We are currently seeking an Intermediate Urban Designer with 5+ years of experience.

The Urban Designer will be involved in projects encompassing urban redevelopment,  resiliency, transit oriented development, strategic planning, downtown revitalization, large scale mixed use, and design of public realm.  

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Research and analyze urban context including transportation systems, zoning, land use, population density, history, geography, character, environment, and natural resources.
• Work on programming research, zoning research, massing studies, orientation studies, and other design studies.
• Prepare presentation drawings and diagrams representing design intent and urban design vision for housing, office, retail, and mixed-use developments.
• Prepare schematic drawings for architecture, urban design, and landscape features of large-scale development projects.
• Utilize knowledge of building practices, design standards, and landscape practices, to complete designs and drawings.
• Utilize knowledge of land use, zoning, and master planning principles.
• Interact with consultants throughout design process.

Required Qualifications: 

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Urban Design and Planning projects 
• Experience with large-scale urban and mixed-use development and planning projects.
• High-quality three dimensional rendering.
• Experience in site planning and zoning analysis.
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Professional Degree Required; advanced degree preferred with ideal candidate possessing joint-degrees in architecture and planning or urban design
• Candidate should be proficient with AutoCAD, Rhino, Adobe Graphics Suite, and other related design software. REVIT/BIM and GIS software is a plus
• Must be proactive, detail-oriented and a self-starter, able to prioritize and multi-task.
• Must be hardworking and a team player.
• LEED accredited preferred.
