Ruth Gyuse Architecture Design is a small architecture firm based out of Brooklyn. We specialize in mid to high end residential construction in the NY Tristate area. We are a minority run/ woman owned start up firm, with a small close knit staff. The office currently works in a combination of remote, in office and on site configurations and requires flexibility to work in all three work environments.

Job Description:

Preparing drawings through all phases of architecture design including Schematic, Design Development, Construction, Bidding and Negotiation, Construction Sketches and As Built Drawings. Preparing and over seeing Building Management, Pricing and Construction Drawing Sets as well as Preparation of Landmarks and NYC Dept of Building filing drawings.

Drafting and developing drawings for custom built in millwork, furniture and other aspects of interior architecture and design. High proficiency Autocad is required as well as a good eye for creating legible and clear drawings. This is a key aspect of this position.

Assisting the Principal with architecture design, testing design concepts, and preparing design presentations. Assisting with client presentation materials including 3d renderings, 2d design drawings, materials and idea boards. Ability to source precedent images to articulate design concepts. Working with an offsite renderer for finished client presentations.

Assisting the Principal with direct Client interactions including design presentations. Working along side the Principal for client interactions including project updates, purchasing, coordination of sub contractors, schedules, payments, building management requirements etc. This requires excellent written and verbal skills, ability to represent the office and Principal’s intentions, strong organization skills, patience and tact for all client interactions.

Research for building codes, construction systems, mechanical and structural systems. Liaising with subconsultants to prepare drawings and specifications, for DOB filing, Building Management packages and during Construction. Assisting the Principal with review of submittals.

Actively engaged in all aspects of Construction Administration. Supervision and coordination of Contractors during construction. Coordination of job logs, project management during construction, maintaining project directory, assisting to coordinate the project schedule and milestones for purchasing, inspections. Actively keeping up with SKs for project flow, design sketches, specifications to the client, drawing revisions, on site trouble shooting. Managing correspondence with vendors, consultants and clients as needed.

On site visits to job sites before and during construction. Assisting with photography, site documentation, measuring, writing meeting minutes, and follow up with contractors, subconsultants and vendors as relates to construction administration. This is a key aspect of this position.

Providing project support including purchasing, managing purchase orders, tracking receipts, returns and exchanges. Assisting to coordinate the Project Assistant with purchasing, managing receipts and product research.  

Assisting with project specifications including plumbing and tiling and all finish specifications. Research and assistance with specifications of construction materials including mechanical, acoustical, structural, cleaning and maintenance. Oversee final cleaning manual and as built drawings and specifications at the end of the project.

Assist the Principal with supervision of junior members of the project team including student interns, junior architectural designers and project assistants. Review of drawings and renderings as required, division of labour for purchasing, sketches, coordination of file folders and project organization, receipts,

Job Summary:

Responsible for assisting, managing and overseeing architectural project(s) on a day-to-day basis from the Schematic Design/Conception phase through to Design Development, Construction Drawings, Bidding/Contract Negotiation, Construction Administration and Closeout phases.

These functions are performed under the direct supervision of the Principal (or Senior Associate)

Performs these functions in various capacities across multiple architectural projects at any one time, during any one of the aforementioned project phases.

Willingness to be an active member of a small team of designers, architects and assistants executing bespoke, client forward, highly detailed projects.  This includes full office engagement and supervision of junior members as required.

Qualifications:

B-Arch minimum. M-Arch is preferred.

7 years minimum experience in an Architecture firm is a required.

This position is Full Time at 40 hours a week plus overtime. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Proficiency with Autocad, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Office Suite are all required. Proficiency with Sketch Up, Rhino and other 3D modeling software is a plus.

Expertise in drafting is required. Ability to hand sketch is required.

Excellent organizational ability and attention to detail.  Project management experience and skills.

Possess strong interpersonal skills among the project team, consultants and client representatives.
