Cheung Showman Architects is a small (currently 5-person) architecture firm founded by Esther Cheung and George Showman in 2014.  Our current work consists of residential (private and multifamily) and commercial renovations and additions in New York City.

We are looking to hire a full-time team member with 7 to 10 years' work experience to join our Dumbo office, starting immediately, as a Senior Project Manager.  Salary range is $80K to $100K, depending on experience.

This position is an opportunity to be at the center of a small architecture firm's operations.  As a Senior Project Manager, you will report directly to the two Partners, and will manage two or more of our junior staff, each of whom runs several small projects.  At times there will also be projects that you work on directly or alone.

On the projects under your management, you will be accountable for:

  • design quality, and preserving design integrity in all phases of the project
  • production quality and completeness
  • project schedule
  • timely and effective communication w/ clients, contractors, and consultants
  • code analysis and problem solving (with support of Partners)
  • construction administration and resolving issues in the field

As senior architectural staff, you will also be expected to:

  • contribute to the office's production standards (best practices, templates, etc.)
  • provide training and support to junior staff on all aspects of the profession

We see the path for growth from this position as transitioning to an Associate role, which would involve taking on larger and more complex projects, and assisting with business development as the firm grows.

A short list of qualities a successful candidate should have:

  1. Be self-motivated and ready to take on significant responsibility.
  2. Be organized and rigorous.
  3. Have 7 to 10 years' work experience in architecture, with *at least 5 years in the United States*.
  4. Have a well-developed aesthetic sense, and an appetite for great design.
  5. Have strong technical and digital skills, starting with fluency in AutoCAD.  Knowledge of Rhino a plus.
  6. Be honest, adaptable, and open to new ideas.
  7. Have an accredited B.Arch. or M.Arch degree.  Licensure a plus.

We are committed to providing a creative and supportive environment for working and learning.  With each new project, we are steering the firm towards higher quality in design, and more effective execution.  We give staff authorship in projects and we value staff input to shape our way of working.  We offer reasonable hours and fair compensation.  We can accommodate a variety of arrangements that involve working from home, though some time in the office will be essential.
