Working under the direction of the Studio’s Creative Director, the Senior designer plays a key role in providing the highest quality of design & service to our clients. They are responsible for generating design concepts and leading Designers & Jr designers through the creative phases of projects. In collaboration with a project manager, the Senior Designer is responsible for delegating & overseeing the work of Designers and Jr Designers, providing direction & feedback for the development and execution of accurate, developed drawings, renderings, and images for presentation, coordination, and construction, and working to ensure projects are on schedule, on budget, and reflect all client & project objectives.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
PROJECT DESIGN & OVERSIGHT
Project Onboarding & Kick Off
Assist in establishing the project schedule.
Lead pre-project site visit
Prepare for & lead design charrettes
Project Design
Generate & communicate design concepts
Lead design teams through the design process, providing feedback & direction
Project Production
Develop & oversee detail-level production schedules from Concept through Design Development.
Oversee, & when necessary assist in, the production of presentations, design documents, and material, finish, and furniture sourcing.
Deliver client presentations
Schedule, prepare for, and run project charrettes and design review meetings
Nurture and maintain relationships with clients while advocating for our designs.
Collaborate with project consultants, product representatives, fabricators to meet project objectives.
Assist in answering and/or reviewing RFI’s, submittals, and shop drawings
Participate in the on-site review of construction progress
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Management
Assign & delegate tasks, keeping designers accountable for assigned tasks.
Encourage the growth and development of your design team
Project Management
Keep up to date on the status of projects, providing feedback to Project Managers
Ensure work required for deliverables is understood and appropriately assigned
Hiring & Onboarding
Participate in the screening & interviewing of candidates
Onboard and serve as manager for designers & jr designers
Studio Design
Keep abreast of the latest developments and trends in the design community
Studio Culture
Contribute to office culture, initiatives, and mentorship of jr staff.
Contribute to the continued development of our design processes and services
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in architecture or interior design. Advanced degree is a plus.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in an architectural or interior design firm
Demonstrated knowledge of the design process, furniture specifications, and products and materials.
Knowledge of commercial and/or residential project constructability, project costs, and code requirements.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop & Indesign, and SketchUp.
Location in New York City, and ability to travel outside of the New York area on a regular basis
