Industry City is a 6 million square foot, 16 building redevelopment located in Brooklyn, New York and the largest adaptive reuse project in the United States. The complex is undergoing an ambitious multi-phase repositioning to transform historic industrial buildings into a modern mixed-use office and retail campus. Industry City is home to a unique mix of businesses including, media and advertising firms Time Inc. and Publicis, technology firm Motivate (owner and operator of CitiBike) and the fortune 500 engineering firm AECOM. The property also hosts the Brooklyn Nets franchise headquarters and the team’s state of the art practice facility. Throughout its ground floors Industry City features an array of highly curated food and spirits purveyors and stylish retailers including ABC Carpet, Design Within Reach and Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams.

Position Summary:

Industry City seeks an interior designer to join our in-house design team consisting of architects, industrial designers and artists who shape the largest adaptive-reuse project in the United States. The Industry City Design Team is responsible for overseeing and executing the aesthetic vision of Industry City for all the architecture, landscape architecture, signage, wayfinding, lighting, streetscape improvement, environmental graphic, and interior design projects on campus.

This position provides an exciting and rare opportunity to propose, impact, and shape projects across disciplines at a large scale and on an expedited timeline. A selection of recent in-house projects include:

· Full interior design for Big Alice Brewery – in addition to layout and finishes, work includes a 15’ long mural executed by our in-house artists

· Interior design for Sahadi’s new Industry City retail location

· Planning, furniture, lighting and environmental design for the Industry City Food Hall

· Exterior retail storefront design across campus

· Design of seasonal and holiday installations

· Layout and design for Office Pre-builds

· Lobby and common space renovations including environmental graphics and wayfinding

· New interior public stairs connecting to 2nd floor workshop retail floors

· Murals and signage across campus

· General collaboration with outside design teams and fabricators for projects across campus

Key Responsibilities

· Design work across disciplines – Interiors, graphics, furniture, installations, murals

· Preparation of digital models, plans, elevations, sections, and details for internal and external review, presentation, and construction.

· Coordination and management of 3rd party vendors and internal IC teams to realize and execute a range of projects and installations


· Bachelors’ Degree in architecture, interior design, industrial design or related field.

· 2-5 years’ experience in architecture, interior design or a related field. Hospitality design experience a plus.

· Software – Rhino, Adobe Suite. Rendering experience a benefit.

· Passion for design and knowledge of current trends across disciplines.

· A flexible design sensibility with a love for color, texture, and richness in design.

· Basic knowledge of construction and an intuition for building assembly

· Strong graphic skills and an ability to communicate clearly through drawing and/or 3d modeling

· Capable of balancing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment with a sense of humor
