VolvoxLabs dba as VVOX Studio is looking for an experienced Designer / Lead Fabricator to help our studio achieve the highest level of success in our groundbreaking immersive, conceptual, and interactive experiences. 

This role will report to our Director and Managing Partner. We require someone who has a strong desire to be both a Designer and hands-on fabricator.

* Please note we are a young and growing fabrication studio and you must be open to working in a close knit group. You must have initiative and be an independent thinker and handle multiple roles.


We’re seeking candidates who will:

  • Design, develop, and execute layouts and plans for installations,
    including researching and contributing to project proposals
  • Have a strong design sense for architectural and new media installations. An ongoing knowledge of trends and techniques is a must.
  • Complete projects by executing work orders and maintaining communication with VVOX director and/or project manager
  • Develop shop drawing sets/digital models
  • Assess deliverables and estimate deadlines based on shop drawings and design
  • Develop installation directives and How-To documents for installers and other fabricators, as well as make CNC files ready for delivery
  • Create a project workflow process from initiation to delivery
  • Operate CNC router by loading and unloading material and running programs
  • Verify dimensions and check quality to ensure adherence to project specifications and design to insure the highest quality of execution
  • Assemble and prepare work for finishing (sanding/grinding)
  • Assure quality control of deliverables
  • Inspire those around you with a passionate and clear vision for each project


  • Ability to work in a very fast paced environment and meet tight deadlines
  • Working knowledge of CNC router
  • Working knowledge of Laser Cutter
  • Working knowledge of wood, acrylic and foam fabrication
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and prioritize tasks for each
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with other teams within Volvox Labs to solve problems
  • Exceptional initiative and attention to detail
  • Flexible schedule; some evening and weekend work required as necessary, as well as some travel
  • Have strong critical aesthetic faculty
  • Advanced Rhino modeling skills
  • Competent with Rhino CAM
  • Attentive to detail, precision and finesse
  • Comfortable working off schedule
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 75 pound
  • Vision for operation a shop environment. Sensibility for cleanliness

This is 3-month probationary period, with option for full time employment after successful approved evaluation with Director. Salary DOE.

  • Earning hours up to 2- weeks (10 days) paid vacation for the first year of service

  • Annual End - of - Year Bonus based on performance of business/ evaluation - earning between 2 to 4 weeks paid time
