Rodgers Farm, situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, involved the extension of a theatre backstage area and the creation of a new creative learning space, complementing the existing toy museum. Designed with natural materials, the project was conceived to inspire children’s creativity and well-being, particularly for children from low-income neighbourhoods. I led the project from Stage 01 to Stage 04, ensuring accessibility and sustainability were central to the design. The building’s sensitive location required careful consideration of AONB constraints and close collaboration with relevant building regulations to ensure compliance as it is a public building.
Sustainability played a key role throughout the project. To reduce the building’s environmental impact, I researched and implemented air source heat pumps, underfloor heating, and recycled aggregate flooring for the creative learning space. Working on the theatre extension, we focused on reusing materials from the existing structure, minimising waste and contributing to a more eco-conscious approach.
My role also involved producing detailed technical drawings for the theatre extension, conducting whole-life carbon studies, and working alongside environmental consultants. Co-leading client meetings and site visits allowed me to ensure the project progressed smoothly while preparing tender drawings and presentation materials to the highest standards. This project offered a valuable opportunity to develop my leadership abilities and work independently, applying my technical expertise within an environmentally responsible design context.
