The Valles Caldera is an unique national park in the Jimenez Mountains of New Mexico. The site exists within the brim of a collapsed volcano and is surrounded on all sides by tall rocky peaks. The Calles Caldera visitors is designed as a block imbedded within hillside of this formation. Spaces are carved into this block to provide for a range of programs. The formal language of the visitors center allows it to blend seamlessly into its majestic surroundings. On the interior, thick walls of rammed earth allude to the geological significance of the site.
