The E-waste Management Center aims to explicate the public relevance of the waste management industry by combining typically separate waste processing programs and public interfaces on one site. Sited on the southern end of Seattle’s waterfront, the facility provides spaces for public waste drop-off and the resale of restored electronic components on one end and large scale waste dropoff, processing, and shipping on the other. The industrial and public components of the building are formalized as two bars of program that interdigitate each other in both plan and section. This strategy allows for
each component to function independently of on another while allowing visitors to witness the material processes involved in waste management as they drop off their own waste or browse selections refurbished electronics.
