Sited along NYC’s Hudson River Park, “The Garden of Forking Paths” is a hydrotherapy spa for injured athletes. By placing areas of injury treatment below ground in a grotto, and placing areas of recovery above ground, the project creates two distinct worlds. Each program type is complimented with the appropriate atmosphere: one calm and introspective, and the other lively and extroverted. Bridging these two worlds is a structural concrete cone that allows for views between different floors and helps facilitate natural ventilation.
