Denver Mid Century Modern Home

This Mid Century Modern Home located in the Hilltop neighborhood in Denver, Colorado, is situated on a one-third acre corner lot in a neighborhood dominated by 1960’s tract homes. Scattered among the tract homes are beautiful original California style houses with low pitch roofs and clerestory windows.

The residence, a reinterpretation of the style of the older homes, respects the materials, forms and massing. Because the house is located on a busy corner, the street facades are simple to create visual privacy and to mute the sounds of the street.

The inner portion of the “L” shaped plan opens up through two 12-foot-wide folding glass walls to a sculpture garden that includes a pool with a sheet-flowing fountain.

The client, an avid art collector, was looking for an architect with art museum experience and turned to HMH Architecture + Interiors because of our work on both public and private art museums and galleries. The house plan was developed with a large central “loft” space that functions as gallery, living room, dining room, and kitchen. Natural and artificial lighting was carefully studied utilizing animated computer simulations. The display walls were designed to be flexible, allowing for changing art. Interior finishes, furnishings and details were carefully coordinated with the interior designer Ben Aguilar.
