London, GB
This urban masterplan transforms a 14,000 sqm site off Shoreditch High Street at the heart of London’s creative quarter. The development creates a significant new public space with a vibrant mix of public, retail, restaurant, residential and commercial space.
Shoreditch Village aims to become a key open space within London’s thriving East End. Transforming the space around a transport viaduct is a key part of its strategy. A series of pedestrianised courtyards creates a quiet enclave and restores lost connections between adjacent retail and commercial hubs.
The distinctive paving scheme provides a unique identity, unifying surrounding building types. Carefully-positioned trees, benches and permanent market kiosks provide a backdrop to daily activity, animated by an integrated lighting scheme which promotes a safe, relaxed environment.
