Civic Center - Multipurpose public building

Personal project.

The project is based on the need of the municipality of Paterna (Spain) to provide a new public use for an urban plot currently in disuse, to transform it into a civic center.

The internal volumes are distributed in a partially segregated shape, generating spaces of social encounter and relationship between them. The whole space is surrounded by a light and translucent envelope that filters and controls sunlight, regulates the climate (temperature, sun, wind) and offers a semi-conditioned environment to the users, closed and warm in winter and ventilated in summer, partially shaded by a cover of photovoltaic solar panels. The shape of this envelope is due to the uses of the building, the orientation and the solar path at different times of the year. During the night, the building is transformed into a lantern that illuminates the garden that surrounds it.

The consequence is a transitional space between the inside and the outside, as an extension of the gardensquare next to the building, around the interior volumes that house the own uses of the civic center, home of the elderly and cafeteria. On the ground floor, a large divisible space is created in four zones, whose disposition will depend on the various events programmed by the center. On the first floor, a gallery, open to double-height space, distributes access to the library and the assembly hall.
