* Note that this is not the actual gum laying chicken you will receive should you accept my offer, but a similar image found on the internet. Mine is in pristine shape and provides endless entertainment... discontinued product manufactured by 'Hubba Bubba'.
well when does a drawing file become your own, once you have edited it enough? Is there a point where the art no longer becomes the original artists, I mean if you make one swift line change within the drawing doesnt it now become your own idea? Where is the line drawn?
Not where you're drawing it...under copyright law only the creator of the work retains the right to modify his own work into new work:
A copyright owner has five exclusive rights in the copyrighted work:
....3. Modification Right. The modification right (also known as the derivative works right) is the right to modify the work to create a new work. A new work that is based on a preexisting work is known as a "derivative work."
Piano has great big balls to thumb his nose at other Architects by giving away his drawings for free online. He is the heir to Cedric Price just as Rem is. Would Rem do this?
I think the growing amount of American work prompted him to remove the drawings but I don't know for sure.
well wouldnt you then be considered the author depending on what you edit? what percentage of a drawing would then need to be modified so that it becomes your idea and intellectual property?
I mean if you changed a few of the panes of glass on Pei's Louvre to photovoltaics wouldnt that then become your idea?
and you would want to buy those drawings because Renzo is fuckin' awesome architechno!
hey, aquilla, you can make all the quips you want about what you could change: you're not funne and it still doesn't make it your work...read the fucking laws for yourself.
please read them for me and then get back to me
I aint got me no time to read em
if I edit it to the extent it is no longer recognizable then it is mine correct?
You could take the Shard and paint a big dick on the side of it... and then it becomes yours.
I'd imagine it's pretty hard to parody architecture. The inclusion of architecture into the Copyright Act is still incredibly young... I wouldn't be surprised if it was challenged soon.
SOM almost picked away at it when they prepared their defense of allegedly stealing the original design for the "freedom tower." They claimed that too many generic features were used for the similarity to be anything other than coincidence.
So, it'll take two or three more lawsuits on the federal level before the lawyers can challenge or reaffirm it.
This sounds a lot like "sampling" in the hip-hop world. It's a big deal, and warping or fading, or clipping it doesn't make it your own. I just watched a documentary on PBS about it. They said its actually easier to make a copy than to sample a song. I wonder if all that applies to Art and such.
usually the original artist gets royalties though for any sampling with music
this sounds more like the intern working at the recording studio took out the original recording and is trying to sell it for his own profit, without telling his boss
don't worry I have more sense that to try and sell them I dont want to be some guy named butch's boyfriend in prison anyway
i worked for an associate firm that did the landscape architecture for the project and was able to get my hands on some of the files and sketches
it even had some of the relationship drawings with kahn's original museum it was sweet
yeah that would be nice I wish I had the original drawings of kahn they would be framed on my wall right now
i posed the question to scramble things up and act like an ass
Am I allowed to sell Kimbell Art Museum/RPBW addition PDF's and Cad files on here or is that illegal being unemployed and all?
?
Wasn't Piano putting this stuff online a few years ago? Then it all disappeared.
No, not on here. I'm sick of people posting ads here. Ever heard of Craigslist?
But the interesting question or the really radical idea was that Piano was giving this stuff away for free on his website.
Does anyone else remember this?
THey were DWF files which my copy of Archicad could open and save. I could then modify them all I wanted. So much for read-only.
So ... Aquilla ... you now trying to use Archinect to fence stolen property ?
I do remember the RPBW cad files online....that was awesome, helped me out with a studio project once.
those are instruments of service - not only can you not sell them, i'd hope you end up serving time in prison just for attempting to do so...
why would you want to buy them?
I can offer a chicken that lays bubble gum eggs.
Serious. It's on my desk, will send promptly.

I prefer the deer poop jelly beans.

I prefer the deer poop jelly beans.
selling drawings that arent yours is pretty illegal homey. i think you have to wait til Piano dies at least, even then...
Oh come on, even if I am blatantly honest and tell that they are not mine?
I need the money for my crack addiction.

from here.
make: "Then it all disappeared."
Thanks to people like Aquilla, I'm sure. What was Renzo thinking that he could trust the goodwill of his fellow architects?
He still provides a lot of high res imagery of his projects though. There's some nice sections of the CA Acad of Sciences still up on his website.

i mean it is like buying artwork
why u think we architects are suckers? paying for a cad files, kidding me?
hey, aquilla, you can make all the quips you want about what you could change: you're not funne and it still doesn't make it your work...read the fucking laws for yourself.
"not funny"
please read them for me and then get back to me
I aint got me no time to read em

It's your work if you make a parody of it.
You could take the Shard and paint a big dick on the side of it... and then it becomes yours.

well then I say we push the boundaries of the law
i thought you were unemployed...you should have all the time in the world to read the laws you are breaking :)
just kidding
honestly though, i dont know how much value a CAD drawing really has
especially if you are saying it is artwork
but i guess i will bite, just out of curiousity
What is your asking price for this?
"What is your asking price for this?"
up to $500,000 in fines and/or five years in Federal prison
haha
that would be on top of what i would be paying for this "artwork"
i am really just curious what he expected to get for this
and am much more curious as to what someone who do with it

dont forget dj dangermouse before gnarls bakley sample the whole beatles white album and jay-z's black album to make the grey album
i doubt he had to pay any royalties
if the building has been built wouldnt the drawings now become common knowledge?
and isnt common knowledge allowed to be used without copyright?
wouldn't it be similar to patent laws? dont they only last for like seven years?
Touché
so how much are you asking for these?
pdfs are one thing
that would probably fall under your use of common knowledge
CAD files might all under a different category though
I imagine there probably is some sort of limit on how long the copyright would last
I still dont understand why someone would buy them from you though
might "fall" under a different category
sorry, the "f" key on my computer is dying
don't worry I have more sense that to try and sell them I dont want to be some guy named butch's boyfriend in prison anyway
i worked for an associate firm that did the landscape architecture for the project and was able to get my hands on some of the files and sketches

oh, i thought the point of the thread was you were trying to sell them....
what was the point of this, again?
wouldnt pretty much any intern who works for a starchitect be able to get their hands on some sweet CAD files?
i always preferred seeing an old blueprint or print than a CAD file
yeah that would be nice I wish I had the original drawings of kahn they would be framed on my wall right now
i posed the question to scramble things up and act like an ass
I had a professor who was O-L-D. he had a drawing set of the Barcelona Pavilion, signed by Mies. never sold them.
scramble things up?
you really must be out of work and extremely bored if that is how you are filling your day
yeah I know it is sad
not necessarily sad.....
just an odd choice to fill your days
no it is definitely sad
i have lowered myself to actually getting "babs" pissed off at me for
my posts
hopefully the economy will pick back up soon
