Point well taken. I personally like the title, since I am an independent professional in the design industry. Freelance, of course, is another appropriate way to describe what I do, but I have come to like the sound of independent design professional.
I agree that if taken to mean anything in the design community that can be looked at as independent or a professional service, then yes, it looses impact.
independent design professional
I am begining to see a lot of people begin to describe themselves (and their companies) as an "independent design professional'.
is this, or is this not disingenuous?
How would that be disingenuous, unless they were not in one of the design fields?
That title seems fairly bland and generic --better than using "architect" when there's no registration in sight, it seems to me.
i stopped using titles a while ago.....
it was for a drafting service company in LA

Regardless, if you are interested, I have created a group on LinkedIn, http://tinyurl.com/indepros and one on Facebook, http://tinyurl.com/indeprosFB where we share thoughts on the subject.
Great discussions on this site, glad I found it.
Kind regards,
