at this point I'm 99% certain they will send me an elegant NO (btw voneckht, you're awesome ). but before i actually read it with my own eyes, I will not be 100% finished with this application turmoil.
The funniest is that after getting into Yale, Columbia and Princeton (this last one with AP), I have assumed GSD would consider my stuff worth their time as well.
I think I was wrong. We'll see about that. But...oh my, what would their expectations be then? lol. curious to see their first year work next year.
meh. no bitching, it's just rhetorical.
My lucky compass is pointing at Princeton right now.
hmm so it seems as though they are trying to give everyone a little bit, instead of giving an amount that will actually make a difference to less people. oh well. i'm trying not to bitch about it, but it's frustrating when schools do that...
I would not take it so personal...I truly believe schools are always looking to build a class of diverse talents and perspective. It is completely possible that, while obviously qualified, you just didn't fit into what they are looking for. I am sure it was 'worth their time', just maybe not the right time.
I applied two years ago and was accepted into Yale but not the GSD. I didn't go to Yale, waited two years and applied again this year. I basically had the same portfolio, I used the old recommendations and a new letter. This year I was accepted. Depends on what they are looking to add to a certain class...I believe...and as I have said before..a little luck.
You have three fantastic opportunities for a top education. Congrats.
Regarding highly anticipated mail from GSD and Penn-
I received both this weekend. The GSD letter, as expected, expressed regret that I will not be offered a place this year etc etc.
The Penn package contained a book of their students' work from the past year, the acceptance letter, and an elaboration of costs and grants, loans, etc. I received a grant very similar to what CMYK noted above ($4500).
I live in NYC by the way... if you're waiting for either of these things, I imagine they're on their way.
just spoke with ucla..... still reviewing, notices should go out within the next week and a half. i'm assuming they are just narrowing down their wait list.
I called SCI-Arc on Friday and asked them when applicants for the MediaSCAPES Program would be notified. They told me it would be this week. I can only assume it will be the same for all MArch Apps as well. Best of Luck!
To all those considering Michigan- I just wanted to say that as an undergrad there I could not have had a better experience. The faculty are great and care a lot about teaching, the studio environment is energetic, and the resources are excellent. Plus Ann Arbor is an awesome town.
Theoretically speaking there's a really wide range of opinions and approaches at Michigan. You're pretty free to explore what you want to explore and you will find that professors and critics will go there with you.
Does anyone know the timing of when people are typically taken from a waitlist? My problem is the school I have been waitlisted at says they contact people after May 1 but the school I will likely send my deposit to is requiring me to take a summer course which I have to pay for by May 1. Do you think if you call them mid April schools will have an idea if they are going to use the waitlist or not? Of course this could all be for nothing if I dont get in off the waitlist or decide to not go even if I do...just trying to figure out all scenarios.
nicholasbailey - i signed in (re: the email they sent a while ago indicating link, username and password), and i had problems viewing the update. then i emailed to ask what's up and got an email right back telling me to login again... it worked. (+) good luck! :)
Did anyone apply for the Media SCAPES Program @ SCI-Arc? If so, did those applicants receive an e-mail describing how to view their application status online? I am a little confused.
Hey Y'all, this is my very first post here. I'm looking for some advice/impressions/etc. So here are my results:
Columbia - in
WUSTL - in
UT austin - in
Yale - waitlist
GSD - reject
Penn - still waiting
SCI-Arc - still waiting
Ok, so first, should I assume I'm out at Penn, since it seems like a lot of people here heard already?? What's the deal with SCI-arc decisions? people are getting emails?
But more important: I'm 90% sure I'm going to accept admission at Columbia, but I still have Wash U at the back of my head. I'm going for their open house to check it out for myself, but I'm curious to see what y'all's impressions of the program are. One thing that might put a program above GSAPP for me is an opportunity to build/more practical experience.
In at @ sci-arc first-professional, with Making+Meaning requirement.
ecarob... If you wan't practical, go with UT Austin. All I saw this weekend at the UTA open house was practicality, and it was done really really well.
villain, mugged & workinghoot_ thanks for the insight on u of michigan. my heart is pretty set on berkeley, so thevillain's synop made me feel good about that. i probably should have went to the open house though. something about the largest arch program that makes me a little uncomfortable.
i just checked sci-arc and staus says "You have been at the Accepted stage since 03/28/2010." no sure what that means, though i don't think they'd make me take making + meaning again since i already completed it in the summer of 2008. i've already been day dreaming about moving from la to the bay, so i'll be saying no thanks in case anyone on the waiting list is curious.
the only school i haven't heard shit from is ucla. didn't their open house already pass? these la schools are silly with their late notifications... it's a little redic!
nick. is your name really nicholas bailey? i'm going to email shelby and tell her that i noticed my application is in the "acceptance stage" and that since it is already late march, i've already been day dreaming about berkeley for weeks. so, while i am thrilled with the acceptance, i will be attending berkeley.
then, i will kindly suggest that she offer my spot to my dear friend nicholas bailey. hahaha.
hit me up via email and i'll cc or blind copy you on my email to shelby. this is pretty dumb though since i'm sure it doesn't work this way and they couldn't give a rat's ass about what i think.
still, it may be worth a shot. what page is your portfolio on again? i'm trying to refresh. did u and your wife end up attending the michigan open house?
this is my first post, long time reader though. but I thought I would help..
sandiego- I am waiting on Washington (seattle) as well. I called today and the lady told me that they sent out 2 rounds of letters already and that the third and last one would be sent out tomorrow or wednesday. I dont know if i should take it as a bad sign that I am with the last group or not. She would not tell me my decision over the phone.
hope this helps. It is the last school I am waiting to hear back from.
hmmm... not sure how "practical" sci-arc is. i love that place, though. they definitely try to make a visionary out of you.
jten: pick mit. that was my reach of all reach schools. i guess it depends on what you're looking for though. going to both open houses should clarify.
i am almost certain that ucla won't accept me. specially since i completed my undergrad there.
2010 M.Arch applicants, commiserate here!
anyone gotten anything in the mail from UPenn yet??...still waiting to here about financial aid info...damn them...
Has anyone called and asked SCI Arc what the deal is?
mmarch13 - nothing here, if I don't receive something by tomorrow I will give them a call.
yeah same here, i need to know how much (if any?) they are offering bc April 15 is sneaking closer day by day...yikes!!!!
ranveli - sweet. thanks for sharing that. If you have specific questions, email them to me and I'll make sure to ask during the open house.
Just got an acceptance to University of Florida. Now where was that last year...
Li Dandan-
Was your Florida acceptance via email or snail mail?
Email. It said "Attached is a pdf copy of the original acceptance letter you will
receive in the mail." from Becky Hudson.
ok. so what the Flick is GSD doin?
at this point I'm 99% certain they will send me an elegant NO (btw voneckht, you're awesome ). but before i actually read it with my own eyes, I will not be 100% finished with this application turmoil.

mmarch13,
got financial package of estimations from Penn over the weekend. sounds like a widespread need-based grant of about $4500/yr. good luck on the rest.
hmm so it seems as though they are trying to give everyone a little bit, instead of giving an amount that will actually make a difference to less people. oh well. i'm trying not to bitch about it, but it's frustrating when schools do that...
cmyk, where are you located, if you don't mind me asking...
oh good question! :)
Razvan..

wow archinect is messing up big time today.
but i agree with what psheldahl said. a lot of it depends on what the school wants its direction to be.

Just got my package from UPenn.. got merit-based $5000 per year. Haven't sent in my FAFSA form yet for need-based.

damn i'm in louisiana...guess i won't be getting anything from penn till later this week...ahhh i hate living on the outskirts of nowhere lol
talked to SCI-Arc... they are Emailing today... anyone hear anything yet?
got wait listed for sci arc.... it's up on their website
I am apparently at the "accepted stage" @ sci-arc. this means i'm in? also, I am correct in assuming they offer no first year financial support?
Waitlisted and need to take Making and meaning...Anyone else waitlisted? This complicates things
where did you go to find out about sci arc?
Got it... I am waitlisted too
nicholasbailey - i signed in (re: the email they sent a while ago indicating link, username and password), and i had problems viewing the update. then i emailed to ask what's up and got an email right back telling me to login again... it worked. (+) good luck! :)
FINALLY got rejected from GSD! WHEW! now that's a weight off my shoulder.
i checked my online status
To All:
Did anyone apply for the Media SCAPES Program @ SCI-Arc? If so, did those applicants receive an e-mail describing how to view their application status online? I am a little confused.
Where exactly can I see my app status?
suedehead - you're lucky it was only one shoulder...
waitlisted at SCI-Arc....boo

finally got my rejection letter from gsd.
It feels so good because it was my last school waiting to hear.
My school decision comes down to either Cornell or MIT.
I am going to attend both open houses on 8th and 12, 13th
Cornell provided AP with 25k
and MIT provided half tuition and regular 3.5yr
It's is very hard to decide.
Any insight on Cornell and MIT would be very helpful!!
Anyone else still waiting for University of Washington, Seattle?
I got WL at SCI-Arc... All you people not going there that got in better start declining!!!! My marriage depends on it!!!
villain, mugged & workinghoot_ thanks for the insight on u of michigan. my heart is pretty set on berkeley, so thevillain's synop made me feel good about that. i probably should have went to the open house though. something about the largest arch program that makes me a little uncomfortable.

OUT:
MIT,Rice
I didn't hear from both UCLA and GSD and I'm not waiting a miracle :)
koru,
You've heard from GA Tech?
What program did you apply for?
When did you receive notification?
this is my first post, long time reader though. but I thought I would help..
