If you look at the tuition/fees online, there is an "educational fee" included in the 25K number that is also around $8000 so I'm wondering if they are one and the same with different names or if it is an additional $8000.
Also got accepted to RISD with a 12k/year fellowship. I'm flying out to Providence on the 7th for the open house. Have you received any postal mail from them? I'm still waiting.
Have any UCLA acceptances received snail mail? I'm still waiting and the open house is in 4 days. No word on financial aid yet either.
hmmm... i don't think i'm as anonymous as most people on this thread. my nickname is actually bird and most know me by that.
4am in cali and still have the energy to post. anyone know when we should hear from ucla, risd and sci-arc? though it doesn't matter much to me at this point, i'm ready for all the results so I can fully move on.
luck may have lots to do with it. i think karma also owed me some positive outcomes, so yeah.
seriously though, i'm very interested in helping out as much as possible since i realize that the outcome could have been unfavorable for me, like any. if anyone had any questions or would like help with whatevs, just hit me up via email. i can't think of much else i haven't shared on this very public thread, but hey, it's possible my personal statement and history essays had something to do with why berkeley selected me. while the essays are quite personal and possibly tmi, i'm happy to share anything that might help with you all.
looking forward to meeting some of you at the tcaup open house tomorrow :)
I will also be attending the open house at RISD as well. Also got a felllowship and still no mail or verification details of fellowship aside from a phone call.
Out of curiousity do you have a previous architecture background?

no longer attending the tcaup open house. just cancelled my trip. don't go looking for me there, foolios. j/k
i'll be berkeley bound in a couple of weeks for their open house. i'm going with berkeley, so i've been having a hard time justifying the effort to travel to michigan. luckily, i got a travel credit.
also, for those waiting to hear back from risd, i emailed cindy (person handling your app depends on your last name. mine starts with f) last night just following up on my application status and to check if they have made a decision, and i received an email from her this morning saying congratulations and that i'm in. they sent the packages out yesterday, so those who are waiting should receive snail mail from them next week. just thought that if there are folks out there waiting to hear back and seriously considering risd, it may be a good ideal to send them an email or give them a call...
still waiting to hear from ucla and sci-arc. irrelevant at this point, but they just need to send out decisions already. i really think schools should strongly consider sending out emails. i mean why waste paper. i hope risd doesn't send paper rejections too. why?
Last mailing for GSD decisions are going out today. Everybody should receive them by snail mail early next week and should contact the admissions office if they haven't by the 1st.
Just got an acceptance from the City College of New York via email. I've already committed to Cincinnati, but it's still nice to have schools say "yes". Still no word from GSD or Kentucky.
The tally so far:
Cincinnati: In w/ AP + $. Already sent my deposit.
Oregon: In
Ohio State: In
CCNY: In
GSD: ?
Kentucky: ?
1. Have 1 common application with the SAME portfolio requirements, so people don't have to waste time tinkering.
2. Let people know their decisions around the SAME TIME, so that people can make comparisons between offers expediently, plan which Open Houses they want to go to, etc. It's ridiculous that people are accepting offers to some places before they even know if they're in at other places!
I may have some of the details wrong, but I've heard that in Australia when you apply to universities, you specify your order of preference from the outset, and at the end of the process you're offered one spot, with placement depending on how competitive you are, etc... due to gov't bursaries and loans, money is less of a determining factor. I suppose it shifts the decision-making to an earlier point in the admissions process, but seems like a civilized alternative.
MArch4-
that's just ridiculous, making 1 good portfolio is challenging enough, we don't need bureaucracy to weed us out! Anyways, that's why WE pay THEM application fees, they're the ones who are supposed to do the weeding, not us.
Sbeth85 - I agree!! Lets make the application process like the law schools: 1 central website, 3-4 recommenders (you choose which to send where), and all the apps "general info" (name, address, etc) is filled out automatically on all of your applications!. Check out the LSAC website (where all the apps happen) its badass!
I know this whole process has been frustrating for everyone but standardization amongst the various programs in terms of their application processes would be incredibly difficult and unlikely.
First of all, standardization of portfolio requirements doesn't allow the schools to review them in the way they are best able to review. Secondly, each program has a different academic calendar and these decisions are made according to their schedule, not ours. Teachers have many more pressing things to do than admissions- like teach. Third, as for people accepting offers before they've heard back from other places- if that's a problem then maybe they should be more patient.
Again, frustrating yes but there's no reason to change as far as the schools are concerned.
has anyone not heard for UBC yet? I'm american so i'm thinking maybe it's just slower getting here but i see on grad cafe that people have gotten their acceptances, rejections AND wait lists.....
anyone else still holding out?
haven't heard from UW yet, thinking it's a lost cause by now..
just got word today from uw, waitlisted. not sure how's that possible since i got in last year (with lots of money) and this year waitlisted to some ivies and in on some...didn't like the cold shoulder i gave them last year...?
2010 M.Arch applicants, commiserate here!
thanks ahas, keopi, mabarch, et al.
so wait...tuition at UCLA for a non-resident sans scholarship
$25,692.00 + $8,000.00 (professional degree fee) = $33,692.00 per year.
do I have that math correct?

Wavyhair-

too much money is being spent, it takes away from the scholarship.
Well, I guess ill be seeing you there!

THINGS SCHOOLS NEED TO CHANGE:

here, here!
I agree!!!
Although part of my thinks they make the application process difficult in order to weed people out!

Living in Gin or anyone else who cares to weigh in...
I just got into City College too but am leaning towards Parsons. Being familiar with the programs do you have any thoughts?
I am drawn to Parsons by the program but City College is such a deal...
