This might seem like a 'high school age' thought, but would be nice if everyone could post the acceptance and rejection letter. Will be interesting to see the different wordings & what are dream letters should have been. I can post Yale. One from every Ivy..
yeah thanks for the info. That package really got me good too. Big package thought it would be an acceptance....nope just some more info, which is nice but still.
Have to agree that the package came at an awkward moment in the whole trajectory of these admissions decisions. Don't they know those packages have the power to kill haha
MYurium,
i like that idea! I've been wondering how they even word rejections (i've never really applied to a stretch school before until now.. and i've only heard back from 1/5 of the places i applied.)
This is oregon's acceptance:
Congratulations! This email is notification that you have been admitted to the University of Oregon Masters of Architecture Option II Portland program at the University of Oregon Department of Architecture. It will be followed by an official letter and confirmation form via regular mail and an invitation to the Portland Grad Day Open House on Friday, April 9th for all admitted graduate applicants. We hope you will be able to attend.
My stats:
UO - in
UW - ?
UT - ?
UBC - ?
Berkeley - ?
To those still waiting on a Letter from Cincinnati....Here is the acceptance email....
Congratulations!
The School of Architecture and Interior Design at the University of Cincinnati is pleased to accept you into the Master of Architecture program beginning in the 2010-11 academic year. Attached is a copy of your acceptance letter; a paper copy will follow by mail.
The second paragraph mentions the Open House. Since you are among our top tier of elite candidates, we would like to pay your way for you to come and visit us.
We hope you’ll join us at the University of Cincinnati, both for the Open House, and of course for your graduate education!
Again, congratulations on your admission to one of North America’s top architecture programs.
why does tulane just keep...me...waiting...
they seem to have notified just about everyone else.
just a question: did anyone else put animation or film stills storyboard in their portfolio? i'm still wondering if that was a questionable action on my part, particularly in the case of the ivies. claymation is an incredibly labor intensive process and i wanted to show it off, but I do wonder if using it would cause admissions/professors not to take me seriously.
sweetpotato: I put a stop-motion film project in progress into my portfolio. There wasn't so much "clay" in it per se, it focused more the set I constructed for it, but there were a bunch of stills, story boards and and other process work. Anyways, it seems to have worked out for me in at least one case, so I wouldn't worry about it. Then again, I didn't apply to and Ives in the States.
pythagoras,
I hold a 5-year B.Arch degree from SCI-Arc.
I only applied to UCLA because that is the only school I want to go to.
Even if I did get into anywhere else, I wouldn't go.
To be honest, I was too optimistic since I screwed up on my GRE. It was around 1200.
And I was applying to the M.Arch II program so I believed the competition would be more challenging.
But I can finally chill on the email refresh button.
I don't mean to scare anyone, but the GSD is starting to notify. One of my ex-roommates with no prior arch experience has gotten into the M.Arch I program, as of twelve hours ago. I don't know how she was notified, and right now I'm too anxious to ask...
Thank you for applying to our Graduate School for the 2010-11 academic year. While I assure you that the materials you submitted were carefully reviewed by the faculty in the Department of Architecture, I regret to inform you that the department did not recommend your admission for the coming year.
The number of places available at Princeton for entering graduate students
is extremely limited and we cannot offer admission to all who are
well-qualified. Indeed, many departments consistently have applicants who
would be admitted without hesitation if the resources were available. Our
decisions take into account not only the applicants' merits, but also the
suitability of the department's programs to the candidates' expressed
interests. Our goal is to achieve a sound match between the strengths of our programs and the interests of the relatively small number of outstanding
students that can be accommodated.
We chose to advise you of our decision via email on the assumption that a
timely response would outweigh the informality of this means of
communication. I would be happy to provide a formal letter upon request.
I wish you success in your plans for graduate study and thank you for
considering Princeton University.
I do not want you to wait one moment longer than necessary to offer congratulations on your having been admitted to the M.Arch. I program at the Yale School of Architecture, Class of 2013. Shortly, you will receive a more formal letter of acceptance from me, which will be followed by a separate letter from Joel Sanders, Chair of the Admissions Committee, indicating further details of your admission to Yale as well as an invitation to our April 8 Open House for admitted students. If you applied for financial aid, an award letter or a letter indicating what information might still be missing to make a determination will also accompany Joel Sanders' letter.
We hope you are pleased with the decision of the Admissions Committee and will choose to become part of our community. We look forward to welcoming you to our School this fall.
We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected for admission to the M.S. Advanced Architectural Design program at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, starting June 2, 2010.
The competition for places in the school was extremely vigorous this year and all of us who participated in the selection process extend our sincere admiration to you for being among the relatively few applicants to gain admission.
Ehhh, we didn't get along, so - I'm chickening out of showing up on her facebook wall after all this time. Sorry, it's really just too awkward! :/
She's a US citizen and went to a 'West Coast Ivy' for her undergraduate studies; that's all I'm able to say for now without completely violating her privacy.
MIT hasn't sent me anything official through email, but I should be getting something through the post pretty soon. And I've been waitlisted at GSAPP - sigh.
If it's the same 'West Coast Ivy' I attended, I might know her. In fact, I'm certain she wouldn't mind sharing what is now inconsequential information for her.
If she found out through the mail, then she must have gotten it on Saturday in Washington, DC. This would be consistent with past years when the GSD sent out priority notification mail on Friday? In any case, just attack your mailman on Monday, everyone!
so i was looking at petersons to see how competitive admissions was for the prgrams i applied to... but there wasn't any information about berkeley?
anyone know what % is admitted to berkeley? i'm assuming a small number..
for anyone who is wondering..
UO - 156 applicants, 47%
UT - 442 applicants, 39% accepted
UW - 479 applicants, 11% accepted
UBC - 444 applicants, 34% accepted, 68 enrolled
also i don't know how new or old these numbers are.. anyone have any other evidence? UO's number seems a little low, but maybe not.
@MYurim - yes, Princeton's rejection letter is so nicely phrased, it makes the rejection less painful, as compared to Yale's. It really speaks volume about the standards and culture of the school, which pretty much gels with the positive impression I have through interaction with people from the Admissions Office. Contrast this with the snobbish, aloof attitude of Yale!
i just got a haircut, came home, looked at myself in the mirror and just fell in love instantly (again). my hair is a fine glossy silk, buttermilk to the touch and blossoms to the smell. my face is that of a handsome angel, radiating with energy and the beauty of god. my abs are succulent sculpted sex machines. i'm so fucking good-looking, anyone who includes a photo of me in their portfolio would have gotten a full ride at any school they desired, and caused an orgasmic frenzy of orgies at the admissions office. just thought you should know.
OHHH ok, Their tuition is SUPER steep. 20k/semester is so much money and there isn't an undergrad to TA for :(. I've been living in NYC for a year and a half now but it doesn't HAVE to be expensive. If you don't mind living in a closet and go to open bars in the evening then it isn't too bad. If you don't care where you live then I suggest looking for an apt in washington heights or inwood or even in the bronx off the 1. It's a straight shot to columbia, but far away from the fun of LES, BK, west village, etc. IT's not like there's gonna be time to have fun anyway. Are you gonna go to GSAPP? or are you considering elsewhere?
2010 M.Arch applicants, commiserate here!
This might seem like a 'high school age' thought, but would be nice if everyone could post the acceptance and rejection letter. Will be interesting to see the different wordings & what are dream letters should have been. I can post Yale. One from every Ivy..
... as we all wait to hear from GSD !
BOS02135,
I received an acceptance email from Cincinnati yesterday afternoon.
Good Luck to you!

Such a crazy an unexpected surprise after such a long night of steak and vodka.
DAAP is now sending notifications? Time to start freaking.
Steak and vodka sounds awesome. Congratulations, people. Fingers crossed for whoever else applied and is here.
Accepted UCLA M.Arch II!
I've been stalking this thread for weeks now, but now I finally have something I have to say.
I GOT INTO UCLA M.ARCH 1!!!!!!
harhainen,
Same here, I've been on the thread over the past weeks checking to see if anyone heard anything from UCLA.
I am super excited to get into the only school I applied to!
weienko, that's so courageous of you to just apply to 1 school. i am sure you were very certain that you could get into UCLA. what's your background ?
why does tulane just keep...me...waiting...
they seem to have notified just about everyone else.

@ weienko - congrats man ! this is probably gonna be your best weekend ever : )
If i don't get into any schools this year, I will be applying to SCI-Arc's M+M summer program.
I don't mean to scare anyone, but the GSD is starting to notify. One of my ex-roommates with no prior arch experience has gotten into the M.Arch I program, as of twelve hours ago. I don't know how she was notified, and right now I'm too anxious to ask...
Got accepted to UCLA M.Arch I!
So far:
GSAPP - yes
Yale - yes
UCLA - yes
Princeton - no
MIT -
GSD -
It's going to be very, very hard to choose where to go. UCLA's two day open house looks incredible.
For those that are wondering...

I wonder if this flood of late-night saturday e-mails is the extent of UCLA's acceptances. I hope not! =/

Oh come on aguacate, do us a favor and ask!
How was she notified, and is she a national or international applicant?
yeah - was it via email -
anyone has the GSAPP & MIT acceptance letter. i think Princeton's rejection letter had a nice way of putiing things together.
columbia's acceptance letter:
Dear Mr. XXX

Has anyone heard from UW yet?
a question for those of you who got into UCLA,
has your decision status changed on their web page?
my status still says no decision has been made. the email was semi-unofficial, they mentioned now forwarding my information to the graduate division.
@MYurim - yes, Princeton's rejection letter is so nicely phrased, it makes the rejection less painful, as compared to Yale's. It really speaks volume about the standards and culture of the school, which pretty much gels with the positive impression I have through interaction with people from the Admissions Office. metacitizen, nothing happened on my status screen.

sooo...moving right along...?
the villain,
how much is $$ considered for gsapp if you don't mind me asking. I just want to see if leveraging for more scholarship is foolish or not.
9k/year. You should definitely leverage.. they're tuition is so steep, + add in cost of living in nyc... it's going to be brutal.
on that note.. I hear gsapp likes to give more money in the 2nd and 3rd years.. is this true?
OHHH ok, Their tuition is SUPER steep. 20k/semester is so much money and there isn't an undergrad to TA for :(. I've been living in NYC for a year and a half now but it doesn't HAVE to be expensive.
